Something between an intimate stage and rehearsal space, the Performance FlexSpace is one of the more quietly useful performance venues in Bloomington. Sitting in the rear of the Arts Alliance Center in College Mall, separable from the galleries by moveable walls, this dynamic room is available to book by musicians, educators, community organizations, any anyone who needs a room with enough space and enough flexibility to create an experience, and at a price that doesn't require a grant to afford.

Performance FlexSpace Capacities
The Performance FlexSpace is an open flexible room where sound will carry between the FlexSpace and the gallery during open hours. Lighting is semi-controlled and never goes fully black with gallery lighting staying on during open hours.
If your event or activation requires detailed sound isolation, broadcast quality technologies, or total lighting control we will not be able to meet your needs.
If your event is struggling to find space, is flexible in its final presentation, and needs to be accomplished on a budget; we’re the perfect community space for you.
This space is ideal for emerging artists in need of a performance platform, community groups in need of meeting or rehearsal spaces, or performers, troupes, or indie filmmakers in need of a first-time venue.
Ideal for acoustic and small-amp musical performances, workshops and classes, troupe rehearsals, group meeting space, and community screenings; we also support non-traditional art exhibits and activations.

How do I estimate my booking time?
Bookings are measured in one hour blocks of time.
Include an additional hour for 30 minutes of setup time and 30 minutes of cleanup time around your booking.

What is the booking fee?
Bookings are $40 an hour. However, a Pillar Arts membership cuts the hourly fee in half from $40/hr to $20/hr.
Small groups, guilds, troupes, and non-profits seeking community and group meeting and/or rehearsal space may be eligible for no-cost bookings.

What is your revenue sharing policy?
For events or workshops with ticket fees using the Performance FlexSpace, Pillar Arts will charge a 25% ticket split on gross sales in addition to the hourly booking fee.

Can we use the piano with our performance?
Moving the piano in and out of the space requires a professional tuning each way, and the cost of both tunings is passed on to the person or group booking.
Inquire early about this request, it requires advance coordination with our piano tuner.

Are there any zero-fee options?
If our community model does not fit your event budget capacity, let us know in your booking form. You may be eligible to contribute volunteer time with Pillar Arts in exchange for Performance Space event time.

Ready to Propose Your Event?
Proposals are reviewed by the Pillar Arts Programming Committee comprised of board members, artists, and volunteers who schedule events and activations at the Arts Alliance Center. Submitting three months or more before your intended date gives the best chance of securing the time you need, but we accept bookings as close as 4 weeks away.
