Huner Emin Abstract Art – Flex Space

Thursday, August 29 – Thursday, September 26Huner Emin is a stateless multimedia Kurdish artist. He grew up in south Kurdistan/northern Iraq and is now based in Bloomington, Indiana. His work has been exhibited in various museums and galleries internationally, including the CICA Museum of Art in South Korea, the Agora Gallery in NYC, and the Duhok Gallery of Art in Kurdistan/Iraq. Huner has received numerous awards, grants, and fellowships, including the Boynes Award, DC Art Commission fellowship, and On Rump Indiana Art Commission Grant.Last Friday, we had the pleasure of welcoming him to the Flex Space to be featured as our esteemed artist for the month of September. Martina Celerin “On the Cusp of Autumn” – Flex Space

Friday, September 27 – Thursday, October 31At the end of September, we are hosting an open reception in the Arts Alliance Center for Martina as our featured artist for the month of October. This is an amazing opportunity to view her talented work and connect with her and fellow patrons of the arts in our community. We hope you’ll join us there!“In the past I focused on oil pastels and acrylic painting. Independently, experimentation with each of these has been useful for my current medium of choice, fiber. Work with oil pastels forced me to focus on visual mixing of color, and the powerful interplay of colors when they are applied proximally compared to when they are physically distant. Acrylic painting allowed for quick mixing of colors both before and after applying it to the canvas, but, as with oil pastels, I became dissatisfied with the flatness of the art. I began gluing found objects onto the canvas and then painting over them. This was better, but still not enough. Eventually I realized that I needed to create my canvas. Weaving allows me to incorporate objects, textures and shapes, as well as colors and coarsenesses into the canvas. By combining this with needle felting, I have been able to push the dimensional limits of wall art and to create weaving-felting fusions that are 3D tapestries.” – Martina Celerin

Arts Alliance Center Artist: Andy Roberts

Andy Roberts is a watercolor, sketching, and pen and ink artist who focuses on landscapes, seascapes, shore birds, and architectural subjects from local, regional, and national areas of varied interests. He is also a Plein Air painting enthusiast. His interest and calling in art developed later in life, after dedicating over 50 years to working as a pharmacist and business manager. Andy has developed and continues to acquire his art skills through Ivy Tech Lifelong Learning classes, private lessons from accomplished artist instructors, and Plein Air painting experiences.

His recent displays include exhibitions at the Hinkle-Garton Farmstead in Bloomington, the Wiley Art Museum in Bedford, the Mitchell Persimmon Festival, and the Bloomfield Apple Festival Art Show. Andy participated in the 2019 T.C. Steele Great Outdoor Art Contest, where he won 2nd place in his division. In 2020, he received recognition as a T.C. Steele Watercolor contestant. He has also showcased his work at the Viridian Moon Gallery with Upland Plein Air and the Bloomington Watercolor Society. Additionally, Andy received the Best of Show Award at the Indiana Heritage Arts of Brown County for the West Baden Show in August 2023.
