Creative Cafe Open Mic Night – Flex Space

Friday October 25, 6:00-8:00 pm

Join us for a special evening at the Flex Space at the end of October. This month, we’re hosting a dynamic open mic night to combine music, art, and thoughtful discussions centered around migrants and the enrichment they bring to our communities. Led by the talented Jenna Sears, the night promises to be a vibrant celebration of the stories, cultures, and creativity that migrants bring to enrich our communities. We welcome all artists to perform from visual art to spoken word, but spaces are limited, so if this is something you’re interested in click here to register today.

Aside from singing and dancing, we also invite all to enjoy complimentary food and drinks while engaging in meaningful conversations about art and migration. Bring your instrument, your art, or your stories, and make this evening a collective celebration of the diversity and beauty that migration adds to our world. We can’t wait to see you there!

Impressionistic Landscape Workshop & Exhibition with David Seward – Flex Space

Friday November 1 – Sunday November 24

In November, the Arts Alliance Center is thrilled to host a workshop and exhibition featuring the award-winning artist David M. Seward, known for his captivating oil paintings that reflect the beauty of the Indiana landscape. On November 2, David will lead “Impressionistic Landscapes,” an immersive workshop where participants will have the opportunity to explore the techniques and processes of creating impressionistic nature landscapes on canvas. Spaces are limited to 12 participants, so be sure to register by October 25th to secure your spot. The workshop costs $160 for non-members and just $125 for Arts Alliance members. Following the workshop, all are invited to join us for an artist reception from 5 PM to 7 PM, where David will showcase some of his most remarkable works. This is a wonderful chance to connect and gain insights into his artistic journey and the inspirations behind his pieces. His artwork will be on display in our gallery from November 1st through November 30th, offering a rich exploration of the landscapes that have shaped his artistic vision. David’s passion for capturing the interplay of light and nature is sure to resonate with all who attend. Join us for this engaging event and experience the beauty of Indiana through David’s eyes.

Candyman w/Q&A | Friday Night Frights

• For as long as residents can remember, the housing projects of Chicago’s Cabrini-Green neighborhood were terrorized by a word-of-mouth ghost story about a supernatural killer with a hook for a hand, easily summoned by those daring to repeat his name five times into a mirror. In present day, a decade after the last of the Cabrini towers were torn down, visual artist Anthony McCoy and his partner, gallery director Brianna Cartwright, move into a luxury loft condo in Cabrini, now gentrified beyond recognition and inhabited by upwardly mobile millennials. With Anthony’s painting career on the brink of stalling, a chance encounter with a Cabrini-Green old-timer exposes Anthony to the tragically horrific nature of the true story behind Candyman. Anxious to maintain his status in the Chicago art world, Anthony begins to explore these macabre details in his studio as fresh grist for paintings, unknowingly opening a door to a complex past that unravels his own sanity and unleashes a terrifying wave of violence that puts him on a collision course with destiny. Local Clay Potters’ Guild 26th Annual Holiday Show

• Members of Local Clay Potters’ Guild along with Indianapolis guest artist, Sarah Richcreek, will present a wide variety of colorful functional dinnerware and serving pieces, jewelry and whimsical freestanding and wall sculptures for home and garden. Made from the same materials, clay and mineral glazes, each piece is its own kind of beautiful. Each potter brings their own creative process to life at this beloved Bloomington event.

Workshop: The Future of Color – Botanical Painting and Earth Pigments

• Join artist Maria Schechter in exploring natural materials to create color palettes from fruits, flowers, and earth pigments. Prepare a couple of pigments from a recipe, and then paint with them. Learn about the history of earth pigments and create colors from materials like black walnuts, onion skins, avocado seeds, and blueberries. Learn from MC IRIS why native plants are important and find out what we can do to help preserve and maintain healthy landscapes. Your painting and some supplies will be yours to keep. Six Foot Blonde & The Namby Pamby

• Engage yourself in a listening room experience live at Buskirk-Chumley Theater. This program invites the community to appreciate diverse sounds and expressions of Bloomington’s talented creatives and artists. $1 from each “Live at Buskirk-Chumley Theater” ticket sale will benefit a local nonprofit or cause. Proceeds from November’s show will be donated to Beacon, Inc., a solutions-based antipoverty organization, dedicated to aiding and empowering people experiencing extreme poverty, especially hunger and homelessness. They provide daytime and overnight shelter, hunger relief, housing, casework, life essentials, and more to hundreds of people each day and thousands each year.
